When you think of Medford Knife and Tool the word “slim” is likely the very last thing on your mind. Most knife collectors and MKT fans alike would probably agree that the first knife they think of is one of Medford’s big, beefy, badass folding knives that are built to survive the apocalypse — much like the Praetorian Ti. However, in the past year Medford has made a concentrated effort into producing smaller, lightweight, everyday carry friendly folders and flippers. That’s where knives like the Praetorian Slim come in!
The Medford Praetorian Slim series of knives completely flip what you think you know about Medford Knife and Tool. These pocketknives still boast an incredibly rugged construction, utilize expertly heat-treated blades crafted out of quality steels, and feature solid titanium frames. More so, these Medford knives are still more than capable of surviving the apocalypse should the time come!
The Praetorian Slim line comes with two variants: The Praetorian Slim and The Pretorian Slim Flipper. The biggest difference between the two models is that the Praetorian Slim flipper is designed with a flipper tab for ease of opening and for hours and hours of addictive flipping sessions. (Don’t lie, we all do it!) On the other hand, the Praetorian Slim is your standard two-handed opening Medford which typically involves the mill cut fuller groove. With that said, if you’re one of the “spidey flippers,” you will be more than satisfied with either version as they easily spider flip using the fuller groove. But enough about the fidget factor, the Pretorian Slim and Praetorian Slim Flipper share the same dimensions and include a 7.6” overall length, a 3.25” long blade, a slender and very pocket friendly 1.3” total width, and both knives only weigh a total of 4-ounces.
The Praetorian Slim series of Knives still carry the classic lines and curves of their much thicker counterparts; however, when in-hand they differ extremely from the thicker versions—and in a very good way! The knives can be found with both tanto and drop point blades sporting S35VN Steel and include a vast number of anodized finishes and custom configurations. Unlike many Medfords, each Praetorian Slim Series Knife is outfitted with a spring titanium pocket clip that aides in cutting down the overall weight but also secures the knife to your pocket for worry-free carry experience.
When developing these slender slicers, the design team at Medford Knife and Tool decided to not only depart from the tradition widths and dimensions, but also reconfigured the internals too. Under the hood the Praetorian Slim Knives run on caged bearings for much faster deployment and a smooth, easy closing action. The traditional hardened steel breaker was also relocated in the new design and is now discretely integrated into the blade itself. The breaker is now part of the blade’s construction nestled at the rear of the blade spine. Don’t let the new placement fool you though, it is STILL a very capable glass breaker – trust me!
Like with every knife to leave the Medford Knife and Tool factory, these knives are unapologetically American made, using American sourced materials from across the nation.
