For those new to the term NFT and the world of crypto, an NFT or Non-Fungible Token is a digital asset that often represents a real-world asset or digital entity. These assets can be artwork, music, videos, and so much more. In the simplest terms, NFTs are purchased and sold online using cryptocurrency and are encrypted with code from the Ethereum platform it was minted from. The minting process assigns a unique, unreplaceable code that assigns ownership to the work of art essentially creating a scarcity and authentication of the artwork. One way to think of this is looking at physical artwork. There is only one authentic “Mona Lisa” painting by Leonardo da Vinci yet countless copies exist throughout the world. The copies of “Mona Lisa” look great but are essentially worthless in the eyes of collectors. In contrast, the authentic “Mona Lisa” is valued at $870 million dollars in 2022 and will only continue to appreciate over time. NFTs operate in the same fashion where copies will always exist, but there will be only one original digital file that’s owned by the buyer/investor.
